Disney Announces Ambiguous Dates for Summer Offerings

Over the past few days, Disney has revealed their plans for the coming summer season to the blogging elite. Awaken Summer as they are calling it not only refers to new Star Wars offerings at Hollywood Studios but new additions all around the resort. While most of these announcements might sound familiar, mostly because we knew almost everything that is on the way and some new attractions still haven’t been given firm opening dates, let's try to break down what you can expect to awaken this summer.

Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire has been narrowed down to June from its original summer slot. The stage show replaces Dream Along with Mickey on the Magic Kingdom's castle stage once it is finished its refurbishment. The show will feature new characters, songs, and costumes.

A Disney Junior star will be making their meet and greet debut at the Magic Kingdom. Elena of Avalor is Disney's first Latin princess. Her series will debut this summer and you can begin meeting her this August.

Rivers of Light Delayed and First Look at Tree of Life Nighttime Show

The Rivers of Light show at Disney's Animal Kingdom officially delayed. The planned April 22nd debut has been pushed back with a new opening date not likely until June.

Recently there have been frequent tests during the day, and presumably at night, in the lagoon where the show will take place. Everything had been seeming fine, as you can see in the photo above even the lighting effects were working well. Could this be an issue with the seating areas that seemed to be taking quite a long time to complete?

To distract you from this unfortunate news, Disney also revealed a first look at the projection show on the Tree of Life. Both of these nighttime shows should be pretty spectacular whenever they get around to starting.

‘Rivers of Light’ To Debut April 22 at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

April 22nd will start a new beginning for Disney's Animal Kingdom. That will be the day 'Rivers of Light' debuts at the park and new nighttime elements of the park will begin to emerge. It's all in preparation for the 2017 launch of Pandora: The World of Avatar.

The show looks beautiful. Plenty of water screens showcase animal images while lanterns float along the river. Not a Disney character to be seen either. Sorry Anna & Elsa, this is one show Disney can't shoehorn you into. If you're as excited for this new show as I am check out this new preview video.

What's Left to do at Disney's Hollywood Studios?

What's Left to do at Disney's Hollywood Studios?

Disney's Hollywood Studios park is just beginning a huge transition that will completely change the layout of the park and even its name. To get this done many attractions have to go away to make room for everything new.

The park has been understandably maligned by fans who have to see some of their favorite attractions demolished. Before starting this article I thought my list would be pretty small, but as it turns out there is still a decent amount of things to do at Hollywood Studios. Here are the attractions that will be left at Hollywood Studios after the big April closures

The Great Movie Ride
A classic dark ride located inside the park's true icon. This attraction is due to get love down the road, but the latest enhancements from TCM are a very tiny step in the right direction.

Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith
Thrill seekers will not be let down if they come to Hollywood Studios. Rock 'n' Roller Coaster still provides a great coaster with excellent theming.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios to Debut Two New Star Wars Spectaculars

The last few years have not been kind to Disney's Hollywood Studios. With attractions and shows being yanked out left and right, the wait for Star Wars and Toy Story lands have been becoming increasingly difficult. Today that bleak outlook on the park is becoming a great deal more tolerable.

Disney has announced not one but two new shows coming to Hollywood Studios that they claim will "make theme park history". First is an all new stage show called “Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Away” which will take place on a stage in front of the Chinese Theater. Kylo Ren will make his main stage debut when he is joined by Darth Vader, Darth Maul, Chewbacca and more. In addition to the show, several times a day, Captain Phasma will lead a platoon of First Order stormtroopers from Star Wars Launch Bay to the main stage area for photo and interaction opportunities. Both of those events start on April 4th.

Starting this summer, guests will be able to see an entirely new fireworks display, Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular. The new display will combine fireworks, pyrotechnics, special effects into a likely breath taking show. This new display will also incorporate video projections on to the Chinese Theater as well as towers of fire and spotlight beams, which will resemble lightsabers against the night sky. This has all the makings to be an incredible fireworks display to rival any other Disney park around the world.
