Fulton's Crab House to Become 'Paddlefish' This Fall at Disney Springs

This fall, one of the icons of Disney's shopping and dining district is getting a facelift and a new name. Fulton's Crab House is currently closed for a refurbishment and is expected to open later this year with a completely new decor, outdoor bar and rooftop lounge.

What wasn't expected was a name change. When the riverboat restaurant re-opens it will be called 'Paddlefish'. The name is somewhat ironic because the paddlewheel over 20 years ago when the restaurant had its original name 'The Empress Lilly'.

New Images and Details of 'Tiffins' at Animal Kingdom Released

Disney has released some new info on the new restaurant coming to Disney's Animal Kingdom. 'Tiffins' is an Indian word but the cuisine will encompass, Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas.

Like the rest of Animal Kingdom, there is an emphasis on immersion in the real world locations they are trying to emulate. The various rooms are described as "a gallery you can dine in". Those galleries are "Asia [Trek Gallery with 74 seats] and Africa [Safari Gallery with 64 seats], and the third [Grand Gallery with 114 seats] pays homage to animal species that the Disney Conservation Fund works to protect.”

Tiffins should be a beautiful place to eat one it is open this summer. My only concern is the menu which has to walk a fine line between accessible and adventurous.

'Toothsome Chocolate Factory' Coming to Universal CityWalk

Universal has revealed what will replace the NBA City restaurant which closed last year. The Toothsome Chocolate Factory & Savory Feast Emporium will bring Steampunk culinary opulence and excess to CityWalk later this year.

The restaurant will try to distract you with their gourmet burgers, steaks, pasta and seafood but the real stars here will be the desserts. You won't be using words like "restrained" or "refined" to describe these overindulgent creations. The pictures below should speak for themselves but let's take a look at the 'Bacon Brittle' milkshake option: "A fun twist on a breakfast favorite with bacon ice cream, bacon brittle, chocolate covered bacon and bacon caramel." and their Red Velvet option is equally superfluous: "A milkshake topped with a Red Velvet cupcake… enough said."

The location will include a retail shop where you can watch chocolate creations be created if you wanted to just stop in and avoid the temptation of a full meal. Toothsome opens later this year at Universal CityWalk.

Universal Officially Announces NBC Sports Grill & Brew

Smell that folks? That's the smell of corporate synergy! Universal Orlando and parent company NBCUniversal, a subsidiary of Comcast, have announced a new dining experience going coming to CityWalk this fall. The NBC Sports Grill & Brew will be the the first location in what sounds like more to come around the country.

The NBC Sports Grill & Brew will be taking over the former NASCAR Sports Grille location that has been vacant for about a year. The location will feature over 90 TVs, and promises an impressive menu of over 75 items. In addition to traditional sports grill fair, there will be unique items like the crab scotch egg. If the action on the TVs isn't to your liking you could also view the action happening in the huge open kitchen as the chefs prepare your meal on custom open fire grills. Over 100 beers, including an exclusive draft, will be served inside and out in the beer garden.

Not really being a sports fan myself I can't say that this new venue is terribly exciting. Even if I was, there isn't anything all that unique about it that I've come to expect from other recent CityWalk expansions like The Cowfish. It does seem like they are trying some interesting things with the menu so that could be a big draw.

Planet Hollywood Transforms into an Observatory at Disney Springs

Disney's shopping district will be rechristened as Disney Springs in the coming months. New shops, walkways and restaurants have been opening and the rest of the headliners will follow as Spring approaches. There are some areas that are still in need of the new theming to fall inline with the new story.

Planet Hollywood as it stands now would stick out like a sore thumb among the trapping of the quaint turn-of-the-century Floridian town. Planet Hollywood has confirmed plans to convert the restaurant to the "Planet Hollywood Observatory". The restaurant will still have the movie and television props and memorabilia while other parts of the space will be themed as an observatory. The ceiling will have stars and constellations and other decor will be themed to the golden age of Hollywood.

The reimagined restaurant is expected to be completed in 2016. Not word on when construction will commence.
