The Studio Backlot Tour is Closing. Now What?

WDW News Today has confirmed that the Studio Backlot Tour at Disney's Hollywood Studios will be closing on September 27th. This marks the second attraction to close without much notice in the park in just a under a month and the third to close so hastily in the entire resort.

Disney has not made an official statement on the ride closure and the future of the area but many suspect an expansion to Pixar Place. A Third track for Toy Story Midway Mania has been rumored for the area for months so this could be the first to move forward.

In addition to the Backlot Tour, the surrounding attractions also reportedly have a limited lifespan left. The Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure, Studio Catering Company and other offerings in the area are all set to be gone by early October.

Besides the Midway Mania expansion what else could be in store? The unfortunate rumor is that the small, basic, off-the-shelf rides from the overseas parks could be coming to take up the space. Given the relatively small amount of space this expansion will be, that rumor will likely become reality.

Another rumor that has been gestating for a while is a Monsters Inc. attraction. The dark ride/coaster was rumored to be themed around the door sequence from the first film. That could potentially still happen since nothing is set in store right now and there haven't been many recent rumors surrounding the area. In our Magical Makeover series I suggested the area, in addition to demolishing the Stunt Show, to become the east coast Cars Land.

Which leads to my closing question, how much time is left for the Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show?
