Toy Story Land Announced for Disney's Hollywood Studios

In addition to the Star Wars Land bombshell, today at D23 Disney also announced plans for a Toy Story Land in Disney's Hollywood Studios. Originally rumored to be an all encompassing Pixar Land, perhaps even containing an East coast version of Cars Land, it is now confirmed to focus on the Toy Story franchise.

The land will shrink you down to the size of a toy in an 11-acre version of Andy's backyard. The land will introduce two new attractions. First is the Alien saucers attraction. Based on the little green men from the films, it appears to be a take on the tea cup ride formula. Second is the Slinky Dog coaster. This will be a family friendly coaster  where you ride inside Slinky Dog. We already knew of a secondary track coming to Toy Story Midway Mania, but now Disney is adding a third track to the plans. Here's hoping it eliminates most of the wait time.

I've expressed fears that a delayed Star Wars Land will force a Pixar land to be rushed, and not much better than the Toy Story Playland seen in Hong Kong. Thankfully it doesn't look all that bad. While the two new rides aren't all that innovative, as a whole the land looks good. And a much needed addition to the studios.

From the concept art it appears the land takes up the space previously held by the Backlot Tour. It might be too early to say how this expansion might affect the nearby Walt Disney: One Man's Dream attraction. If it does have to go I just hope it finds a new home.
