Today at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California Disney officially revealed their plans for Star Wars Land. Make that "Lands". Not only will a Star Wars Land be making its way to Disney's Hollywood Studios, it will also be coming to Disneyland Park in California.
The new lands on both coasts are set to be 14-acres each. For comparison, the current size of Fantasyland in the Magic Kingdom, after the New Fantasyland expansion, is 21-acres.
It appears both lands will be nearly identical. Both coasts will feature the same setting. A new planet that has yet to be introduced in the Star Wars universe. No name has been given yet but we could see the planet in the upcoming film, The Force Awakens.
The land will feature two signature attractions. Details are light at the moment but we know one of these experiences will allow you to control the Millennium Falcon on a "secret" mission. Another experience will put you in the middle of an epic battle between the Resistance and the First Order.
Those won't be the only things to do on this new planet. A cantina will be open to anyone brave enough to enter and let's not forget about all those merchandise opportunities.
Having the land set on a new planet will give imagineers tons of possibilities to work with. In the announcement Disney was really pushing immersion as a main selling point of the new land and if reality lives up to the gorgeous concept art they could have a hit on their hands.
